I was thinking about the words the other night, specifically prefixes. Some make sense. Others are bit odd. For example, take the word nonsense. The prefix non makes sense here. To talk nonsense is to speak with no sense.
But what about the word nonchalant? To be nonchalant about something is to be cool and collected. So is it possible to be 'chalant?' As in "Did you see that guy screaming and yelling at the restaurant? I've never seen someone act so chalantly!"
Here's an example with the prefix re. Sometimes, it makes perfect sense like in the word review. I get it. You're re - viewing something. Taking a second viewing.
But, what about the word repeat? Does that mean your 'peating' something for a second or third time? Such as, "If I have to peat this again, there's going to be trouble, missy!"
And what about the word prefix itself? That must be like: "I'm going to go ahead and fix this word before you even start using it. Give it a quick 'prefix,' if you don't mind."
Yep, it's Friday. My brain is mush.
By the way, my six year wedding anniversary is tomorrow. Woo hoo!
