What’s She Smoking?

Today, I scheduled an appointment with an acupuncturist to have moxibustion preformed. Moxibustion, which is a form of acupuncture, involves burning mugwort (an herb) near pressure points in the feet.

Now, if you’re asking yourself why the heck I’d do that, the answer is research has shown that moxibustion is effective in turning breech babies. Even though I don’t really get how it works, I’m willing to give it a try. It’s non-evasive and inexpensive, which can't really be said of a version (the belly turning thing I mentioned before) or a c-section.

Casey and I are going to the Balanced Healing Medical Center next Friday to learn how to do moxibustion. They don’t do the process in the office, so the acupuncturist is going to teach Casey how he can do it to me at home. Apparently, burning mugwort smells similar to marijuana, which freaks out the clinic’s elderly patients.

So, if you come by my house (which we’d be happy to sell to you or any other interested party) and it smells like wacky tabacky, it’s not because Casey and I have taken up smokin’ doobies in my 8th month of pregnancy. We’re just trying to turn a baby – the (500 BC) old fashioned way.

SUMMER!!!

I almost told you about moxibustion on the phone the other night... last summer, when we had our Professional Issues in Medicine & Health class, we were assigned ethical situations to research. Mine was on oriental medicine & was about a woman who performed moxibustion on her child and whether or not it was child abuse. So in researching it I found out it turned 80% of breech babies.

No way I thought you would believe me or be interested! I thought most women who had it done had it done to their stomachs. Well, good luck!

Jason came upstairs as I was reading this to find me laughing out loud. I read him the post, and he just about died when you said "wacky tabacky" and "rollin doobies".

I must admit, we find "pot"y humor funny. Let's just say we had parents who rolled a few in their day! :P

Summer that's hilarious. I too was laughing out loud, and I do believe that if we were in town, we would have to just drop in and check it all out. Are you sure Cassie is up for this? He's not going to have to burn your foot or anything is he? Maybe Erin should come and supervise!!
