Extreme Makeover: Chair Edition

Last week, my mom and I gave my dining room chairs a new look. It was a surprisingly (to me at least) easy project. I got the fabric on sale at Hobby Lobby, borrowed a couple staple guns from friends at GFA, and we went to work reupholstering the chairs. While we were re-covering the chairs we noticed several were missing nuts and bolts so we replaced those too. Now, I've got sturdier chairs with a new look.
Yay for DITY projects that work out!

If you're interested in doing something like this for your own chairs, here are a few more details. If you have 6 chairs, you'll probably need a little less than three yards of fabric. Like I said, I got mine from Hobby Lobby. They have a really good upholstery selection. I also checked out Joanne's Fabric, but they were more expensive.

Once you have your material, cut it to fit each of the seats. Make sure you leave enough room to pull the fabric under on the bottom of the seat cushion.
Then, unscrew the seat cushion from the frame of the chair.

Begin pulling the fabric taut on the cushion and place your first staple. Continue placing staples about an inch apart.

When you get to the corners, make sure the fabric is smooth before stapling. When you're finished stapling, trim the excess fabric and put the chair together again.

Wah-la! You're done with your first chair!

Wow. I am so impressed. That's so much more impressive than the hat sewing project I did with my mom. And they look great.
