Of Ants, Caffeine and Taxes or: The Tale of The Caffeineted Formicidae Publican

I'm hoping this is one of my longest titles yet. Blogspot is currently giving away 3 million Twinkies to the blogger with the longest title this month. Hmmm, no not really. But . . . I am giving away lots of laughs for long, goofy titles, particulary those pertaining to government-employed insects. No expiration date on that offer, ladies and gentlemen.

Now, on to the very serious and not at all humorous matters my title highlights.

1. There are ants in my kitchen. I am spending 99.9% of my waking hours in one of these tasks:
a. squishing ants
b. squirting ants with bleach
c. pouring vinegar on the kitchen counters to deter ants from their party-like-it's-1999 invasion
d. giving ants dirty looks in hopes of discouraging them from wanting to hang out with me

2. I'm temporarily on a coffee hiatus. I get migraines (although taking riboflavin has reduced their frequency - thanks for the tip, dad!). My dependence on coffee to start the day seems to be a trigger. On Friday night, I had a real brain splitter. It even involved puking (this detail included for all of you who relish TMI). So I haven't had any coffee since Saturday morning. I must say I'm feeling less cotton-eyed upon waking up in the morning. But I do miss it already. Tea is only a so-so substitute for rich, creamy coffee. We'll see how long I can hold out.

3. I'm filing our taxes. What's that you say? They were due in April? Uh Ohhhhh. Just kidding. We filed our extension like good law-abiding citizens. This is my first year to work on our taxes since I married Casey. (When he owned his business, the taxes were more complicated and an accountant did them.) I'm using H&R Block's online tax program. It's free and actually really easy and even a little fun. Especially, the part where they tell you how much of a refund you'll get. :)

:) Erin told me about you as well so I have been reading your blog too. I feel like I know you...does that make me a stalker. If so, you are one too so we're both creepy. Your son is super cute too! I also see you know Steph apparently. I'm sure you know she was one of my college BFFs and roomies. How did I not meet you? I graduated a semester early so you must have come along right when I left. If you ever venture down this way, we should hook up. And if you want to join up with us for the upcoming Shirley Lane Reunion, please do! And yay for Asia! I have a heart for the Japanese specifically. Thanks for serving in making Christ known to Asia! sarah

Hey Summer!
I hope you guys are doing well in Texas! About the ants- try this unless you already have- I tried it and it worked for me! Mix equal parts sugar and borax together and then sprinkle all over the ant hill- the sugar of course the ants love and the borax kills them- you can look up exactly how it kills them online- something with their nervous system I think- try it and let me know!- Julie Haines

Is The Colony built on the same ant hill on which Carrollton resides? I am convinced Carrollton is built on a HUGE ant and bunny hill.

tea is still really good... especially lady grey tea from twinings, with cream and sugar. so much better than coffee. oh, and i hate squishing ants too.

You gave up coffee? wha? And for the ants....well, I got nothing. However, I usually buy that stuff you can spray around all your windows. Dirty looks works well too.

Hi-lar-ious. I really doubt your dirty looks intimidate the ants too much though.
