For example, the other night Colton was having a difficult time falling asleep. So after he'd been fussing a little while I went to his room to check on him. When I came in the room, he stopped crying and said, "Crying." I said sympathetically, "I know you were crying."
Then I took him out to the study, set him on my lap and put on a Mickey Mouse cartoon on youtube. He responded to this friendly gesture with a big smile and a heart-felt, "Happy." I replied with my own heart-felt, "I'm glad you're happy."
I love it when he tells me he's happy. It's always over really simple things. Of course all of his pleasures at this point in life are pretty simple - like the joy one feels in wearing a swim diaper as a hat while brushing their pearly whites. Ah, sweet bliss.
Colton also knows the word mad although he doesn't use it as much as happy or crying yet. He does get mad though, he just doesn't remember there's a word for it in the "heat of the moment."
