Life with two kids has been really busy. I'm challenged by the task each day. It often seems that there isn't enough of me to go around. Colton wants all my attention, but the baby still needs some, so does the house, and Casey, and a list of other things.
I've heard that it takes six months to adjust to adding a child to the family. Maybe that's true. We're hanging in there, but I can relate to Bilbo Baggins in Lord of the Rings when he said, "I feel...thin. Sort of stretched, like...butter scraped over too much bread."
Although I do not feel literally thin. I think second baby weight likes to hang on a bit longer than first baby weight. At least that is becoming my experience. But enough about my vanity. :)
So in summary if you haven't heard much from me lately, it's not that I don't like you anymore, it's just I'm still figuring out how to juggle things around here.
Here's a little day in the life excerpt.
This afternoon, I took the kids to McDonald's so Colton could burn some energy in the play area. He had to use the restroom while we there, so I packed up the diaper bag, put Elise back in her stroller, put his shoes back on and rolled into the restroom.
We went to the handicap restroom first because our stroller could fit in there. He struggled on that toilet, and he almost fell in. So we decided to try the other toilet. At that time, another mom with an older girl came in the bathroom. I had Elise in the walkway squirming her way nearly out of the stroller since she wasn't fastened into her car seat (doh!).
Then Colton made an appearance outside the stall with his underwear and shorts down around his ankles. The other mom looked at me and said, "It gets easier."
After Colton used the restroom, I discovered he'd peed all over his underwear and that I didn't have another pair of his underwear in my diaper bag. So I had to put him in a diaper which sort of defeated the purpose of the potty run.
A well-meaning grandma at McDonald's gave Colton one of her older grandson's Happy Meal toys. It's a mini lightsaber. When we got home, he tried to stick it in the light socket because he was "fixing it." Then he said it was for poking me and gave me several pokes in the leg with it. After I talked to him about how we aren't suppossed to hurt people, he looked at me sweetly and said he wasn't going to poke me anymore and then, "I love you, mommy."
And that's a day in the life. Or at least a couple hours.
In lieu of more words, I'll leave you with a video of Colton shaking his money maker. There was a "dance-off" video competition at our church to try and promote a new service time. We recorded this video but never actually submitted it, so you are seeing exclusive footage!
