Don't Play with Scissors After Midnight

After about 11 p.m. the only thing I'm really interested in is sleep. But sometimes (AKA every night) I'm awoken by a wee one down the hall. Now, you would think that these late night stirrings would encourage me to always go to bed as early as I possible and never give way to crazy ideas like cutting my own hair at 1 a.m. with a pair of rusty beard trimming scissors.

But, as I passed the bathroom mirror late Saturday night, I noticed my layers were in need of trimming. As I grabbed the pair of tiny scissors, I thought to myself, 'If I trim my own hair, I can delay getting a real haircut for a bit.' Frugal and time-saving!!!

At first, things were going quite well with the haircut, I was snipping in and texturing like a pro. As I finished up and examined my hair, I thought it looked pretty good. But then, not one to leave well enough alone, I picked up the scissors again to 'perfect' my styling. One side got a bit too short, so then I had to fix the other side and so on.

One thing led to another and around 1:30 a.m. I was grabbing a fistful of hair and cutting off about 4 inches. Then to the next side. Yep, wads of hair in the trash. The 'do is uneven. Going to bed now before I'm bald. (Don't ever let me cut your hair, in college I 'trimmed' a friend's hair and we had to shave his head to the skin to repair the damage.)

The next day, I went and paid someone $15 (still frugal) to even out my hair. So, a little trim turned into quite a cut, but it's okay because hair grows. My missing inches also make my hair dry faster and comb through easier so really it's not so bad. That said, I'm grounded from home haircuts from now until ... well, hopefully forever, but since I didn't learn my lesson from the time I tried to cut side bangs and instead gave myself a mullet, I can't make any promises.

Don't pluck your eyebrows either! My sister attempted to do that after taking a sleep aid one night and woke up with a hole in one of her eyebrows! Too funny!

Those are great! I was kind of wishing that you had photos during the cut and you did! You sure did get a lot chopped off!

I once cut Matt's hair with a pair of manicure scissors, on a whim. I thought I could get the in-style, tousled 'random' look. Didn't work. One of his students commented that it looked like a mule had been eating his hair. He won't let me try again!
