Musings on Curlers, Naps and Tulsa

Here's a few random thoughts for you this afternoon.

Yesterday I saw a woman out and about with curlers in her hair. This sight always gives me pause to wonder. I wonder where she's going later that is important enough to look silly now. She can't be someone who doesn't care what people think about her appearance or else she wouldn't be bothering with rollers in the first place. So, I figure she must just not think much of us (the people who are currently seeing her in curlers) or that she just really, really wants to impress the people she'll see later and is willing to make this sacrifice. This is one of life's great mysteries. Perhaps, if you are a woman who wears curlers in public you can shed some light on the matter for us.

Second random thought, why does a 1.5 second nap in the car negate a would-be two hour nap at home? Anytime Colton's eyes slip shut for a millisecond it completely obliterates any hope of his afternoon nap. I still lay him in his bed, and he usually complies and lies down for a moment or two. But then like clockwork he's up less than 15 minutes later squealing, kicking on his crib walls and then crying to be released.

I try everything to keep him awake in the car, rolling down the windows, tickling his face, talking loud, but to no avail. Asleep he falls, and the afternoon nap flies out the window.

Finally on an equally important note, I'd like us to ponder Hollywood's frequent references to Tulsa, Oklahoma. A few years ago, Casey and I started noticing that when Hollywood writers are looking for an obscure place to say someone is from or traveling to, Tulsa frequently fits the bill. I heard it the other day in Sleepless in Seattle and someone told me that Chandler from Friends was doing something in Tulsa for a while. I can't think of all the other times but if you start listening for it, you'll hear it pretty often.

It's probably an alien conspiracy. I hear a lot of martians live in Tulsa. And that they also control Hollywood. Fact.

I can relate with the nap thing! When Benjamin was little (and even younger than Colton is now), he used to love to play with empty water bottles. So I'd keep a bunch of them in the passenger's seat, so when he dropped one after banging it around for a while, I could pass another one back to him. Because if he fell asleep, even for 10 minutes, there went my quiet afternoon! :-)

I never understood you mothers and the whole not letting your kids fall asleep in the car. That was until I birthed Riette. Sinclair is a sleeper, a heavy sleeper. She can nap ten times a day. Ever since Rie, and her light sleeping, sleep in the car, and no nap self came about; I now understand.
As far as the curlers go.....I admire those brave souls:)

Annie does the same thing in the car! She won't actually sleep, but will get all comfy with her Tigger and suck on her fingers and that is her "power nap" I guess for the rest of the day...

It was fun seeing you today! :D

Ryan and I have noticed the Tulsa thing too. It is odd how often it happens. And I was watching Doctor Who the other day and they said someone looked like an "Oklahoma farm boy."

Let me just say that when I go out in curlers, it's only because I really need whatever it is that I had to go out and get. Although, I haven't gone out in curlers since high school, so my reasoning may be different from your lady's.

You are so funny! I just saw a lady in BIG curlers the other day. I wonder if they forget they have them in and next thing they know they're at the store. It's true about Tulsa.

I remember trying to keep my kids awake in the car!
