Back from the Sunshine State

We had a nice trip to Florida last week with Casey's parents. Colton loved the beach and spent lots of time playing in the water and knocking over the sand castles I laboriously built him.

He did so well on the plane ride that I can't even recall receiving any icy glares or spitwads to the back of the head during any of our flights. He also slept quite well in the pack n' play - except for the night that he woke up three times but I think that was just because he got too cold.

We all ate a lot of seafood, especially the local specialty: conch fritters. They're like spicy hushpuppies with little pieces of chewy conch inside.

A couple times we saw some sharks (nurse and bonnet) and a variety of other smaller sea creatures. Colton even petted some starfish, mollusks and crabs at a nearby nature center.

One evening we tried to go to a dolphin research center but arrived to late to tour, but instead we made friends with the resident rooster. Or, I should say everyone but me made friends with the rooster. I just ran away from him. (He was viciously chasing me!) He was very aggressive, and I'm pretty sure he wanted to bite me. Don't let the pictures of him looking gentle as Colton pets him and Casey holds him fool you. He was a killer.

Today I knocked out the dreaded post-trip task of unpacking the family suitcases and doing laundry. Ahhh, it feels good to have the house all tidy and be back in the daily routine. Vacations are fun but I'm always glad to be back home.

Wow. We're surprised the rooster let anyone close enough to touch him, let alone hold him!

Sorry you arrived too late to visit the dolphins. Hopefully you'll have a chance to return in the future.

I come in defense of the rooster. He was very kind. I had given him 3 ounces of feed to chase Summer... it was my little plan.
