Yesterday Casey and I made plans to meet a couple of our friends at Chik fil-a for lunch. Colton had been being a little fussy before we left and had pulled on his ear and said ear hurt. I asked him which ear to see if he said the same one or if he switched it up and was just looking for attention. He pulled on his other ear this time so I didn't take it very seriously. Plus, he's never had an ear infection and the doctor had said last month that he wasn't likely too since he had a clean track record.
I got us ready to go and hoped some chicken nuggets and fun in the Chick fil-a play area would cure his blues. We arrived at the restaurant and he seemed pretty content. Things were looking up.
Then right after I ordered our meal, the cashier informed me that I was the 100th customer and it was all free! Awesome!
All was going well the first 5 minutes of lunch, then Colton started to get really upset. He didn't want to stay in his high chair and wanted me to hold him. I thought he might just be trying to get down so he could play. So we decided to move closer to the play area so we could watch him through the glass.
Normally, Colton loves the play area but not yesterday. He immediately got hysterical. I noticed he was pulling on his ear more. That's when I whipped out my cell phone and called the doctor. I got an appointment for him within an hour. We quickly packed up our remaining food and lugged our sick guy out to the car.
By the time I got him home, he was starting to feel hot. He then fell asleep on the couch only to have to be woken up 10 minutes later to go the doctor. At his pediatrician's office she confirmed that he had an infection in his left ear and prescribed amoxicillin.
He spent the rest of the day snuggled up to me falling in and out of sleep. The only time he will cuddle for more than a couple seconds is when he feels sick. I hate for him to be sick but it is nice to get the affection.
Today he seems to be feeling a lot better. He's had three doses of antibiotics so far and some Tylenol too to ward off the fever and pain.
To sum up the day: free food=good, sick child= kind of bad, unexpected cuddles=quite nice.
