My brother-in-law told me he thought I'd never looked more like a mom (he meant it as a compliment). Since I was wearing an apron, cooking and pregnant. The fact that my hair was in a bun might also have added to the "not a kid anymore look." I should have busted out some schoolmarm spectacles for the full effect.
My culinary offerings included all things buttery and sugary. (Broccoli rice casserole, sweet potato casserole, corn casserole, dinner rolls, and a spinach salad with feta and candied walnuts.)
I also hunted the turkey (at the grocery aisles of Target) but let my dear mother-in-law handle the final phases of his demise. For some reason, I'm just not real interested in sticking my hands inside a slimy bird for its giblets and headless neck. Ew. I just popped him in the oven the morning of our great feast.
Other dishes included glazed carrots, roasted asparagus, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, olives, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce and several desserts.
Sadly, we had no green bean casserole at our meal. But I'm pretty sure everyone got plenty to eat even without it.
Colton helped me make the dinner rolls. He enjoyed using the "steam roller" to flatten the dough. He also enjoyed trying to pop balls of dough in his mouth every couple minutes. Due to this tendency, his time as a pastry chef was short lived.
Here we are the next day playing Scrabble. Some of the more strategic of the bunch learned the challenging board game Puerto Rico. If you're wondering which group I fell into, just think "Preggo Brain" and you'll have the answer.
Here I am at 21 weeks. And if you haven't heard, we're having a GIRL! :)
