The other day, my animal-loving co-worker was really upset about a sick pigeon that was outside our offices. By the end of the day, the pigeon had died and she was feeling pretty down about it.I tried to make her feel better by saying that I didn't think birds probably experienced pain or loneliness in death like people are capable of.
Then we got to talking about whether pigeons, or other animals would be in heaven. She said that someone had told that the Bible said they won't because they don't have souls. And that had always bothered her. I told her I wasn't familiar with any scripture like that. The only thing I could think of like that would be that people are created in the image of God and that's part of why we have the option of eternal life.

But as we continued to talk, I thought about how the Bible talks about a new heaven and a new earth. If God cared enough to create all the animals that fill this imperfect earth, is it outside the realm of possibility that he might allow these animals to come to the new perfect earth? I don't know. But, I think there will be animals of some sort in heaven, whether they're totally new creatures or some familiar faces we've loved on earth, I'm not sure.
What do you think? Do you think there will be animals in heaven? What about pets - do you think animals that are alive now will be in heaven?

I think it will FOR SURE!
There's a really great book called "Heaven" by Randy Alcorn she should read. There's a whole chapter about animals in heaven. The gyst of the whole book is that "heaven" is really the new Earth. I think animals are an essential part of what earth is.
I think some of the verses he uses are from Isaiah- talking about heaven, the lion will lay down with the lamb/a child will stick its hand into a viper's nest and not be bitten; and also most of revelation, which has animals. And sinless Eden had animals.
Wasn't there a movie called "All Dogs Go to Heaven"? I think that sums it up. I just hope that flies, scorpions, and ugly spiders aren't there.
