And the prizes go to . . .

Drum roll please . . . here are the answers and points tally from Monday's quiz.

Q. In the winter, the Ingall's family cow produced white butter. How did Mrs. Ingalls turn it yellow?

A. She mashed up a carrot and boiled it with milk, then squeezed the substance through a strainer into the butter.

Q. Describe the contraption that the Ingalls family smokes their meat in.

A. The family used a hollowed out tree trunk (about 8 ft tall). They cut a door in the bottom of the tree to add in hickory chips and start a fire. The top of the trunk was covered with a leather tent to hold the smoke in. The meat was stretched on pegs and hung inside the tree where it smoked for several days.
Q. After slaughtering their pig, what does the family do with its bladder and tail?

A. They blew up the bladder with air and used it as a ball (such fun!), and the tail was fried over the fire, and the girls enjoyed it as a tasty treat!

2 points are awarded to Natalie from creativy on the sunflower answer, 2 points to Erin for the humourous pin the tail on the bladder answer and 1/2 a point for the correct but very vague smokehouse answer, and 3 points for Kim for the nearly correct answer about filling the bladder with water to use it as a ball.

Excellent work ladies! I think we may be ready for our voyage on the Oregon Trail!
